PROJECT OVERVIEW
Symbolizing one of South Florida’s most iconic forms of flora, the sculpture highlights the importance of thoughtful design within a landscape shaped by rapid growth. As Florida continues to expand and welcome new residents, there is an equal responsibility to preserve and celebrate the environmental qualities that define its identity.
Constructed from materials commonly found on construction sites, the work reflects the very systems that shape our built environment. Rather than positioning development in opposition to nature, it proposes a more collaborative approach—one that integrates new structures into existing ecosystems in ways that support their long-term vitality.
At its center is the orchid, a form deeply embedded in South Florida’s visual and cultural landscape. Found both indoors and out, it represents resilience, delicacy, and enduring beauty. The vessel supporting it draws from those commonly seen throughout South Florida homes, carrying a sense of familiarity and historical continuity.
Together, these elements create a dialogue between progress and preservation. The sculpture suggests that growth and environmental stewardship are not opposing forces, but interconnected ones—capable of existing in balance when approached with intention and care.
